I reread my diary. Yesterday we talked about jazz, and before that we talked about John Lennon. Are you bored with all the music talk? But I love music. I realized that again. When I’m thinking about music, no matter how much time I have, it’s never enough.

I love John Lennon. The songs he writes, his guitar playing, his interest in art and literature, his performances. Why is that person so interesting?

Yesterday, I bought Beatles CDs and records. Both were produced by the Beatles in their early days. At this time, they were mainly active in rock and roll music. After that, they stopped their live performances and started experimenting with music in the studio.

I also love studying the evolution of the Beatles’ activities. John Lennon was the leader of the Beatles. However, from around the time of the White Album, he shifted his focus from working with the Beatles to working with Yoko Ono.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to write about it in detail right now, but I feel very fulfilled by carefully unraveling the changes in John Lennon’s activities.

日記を読み返しました。きのうはジャズ、その前はジョン・レノンの話題でした。音楽の話ばかり続いて、あなたは退屈でしょうか？でもわたしは音楽が大好きなのです。そのことに改めて気付きました。音楽のことを考えていると、時間がいくらあっても足りません。

わたしはジョン・レノンが大好きです。彼が作った曲、彼のギター演奏、アートや文学に関心があること、彼のパフォーマンス。どうしてあの人はこんなに興味深いのでしょう？

きのう、ビートルズのCDとレコードを買いました。どちらもビートルズが初期に製作したものです。彼らはこのとき、ロックンロールを主体に音楽活動をしていました。そのあと、彼らライブ活動を止めて、スタジオで音楽の実験を行っていきます。

ビートルズの活動の変遷を研究するのも大好きです。ジョン・レノンはビートルズのリーダーでした。しかし、ホワイトアルバムのころから、ビートルズの活動より、オノ・ヨーコとの活動に軸足を移しました。

残念ながら、時間がなくて、いまは細かく書くことができませんが、こうしたジョン・レノンの活動の変遷を丁寧に紐解いていくことに、とても充実感を覚えます。

Last night, before going to bed, I listened to jazz piano for the first time in a while. When I was in high school, I was interested in playing the piano. At that time, I was listening to various jazz pianists.

I listened to Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Bill Evans, a lot of jazz pianists. Some of the songs I heard were difficult and difficult to understand, but I felt that all of the songs were played very well.

I don’t play jazz piano. I play a little rock piano. It’s fun to play rock piano, the phrases are cool, and I really like it. I like jazz piano as much as rock piano.

Let me tell you about some jazz pianists that I have listened to. Gerals Clayton, Bill Charlap, Yuki Futami, Yuka Yanagihara.
These pianists’ performances were amazing.

ゆうべ、寝る前に久しぶりにジャズピアノを聴きました。わたしは高校生の頃、ピアノを弾くことに興味がありました。当時、いろいろなジャズピアニストを聴いていました。

セロニアス・モンク、ハービー・ハンコック、チック・コリア、ビル・エヴァンス、多くのジャズ・ピアニストを聴きました。中には難しくて分かりにくい曲もありましたが、どの曲もとても素晴らしい演奏だと感じました。

わたしはジャズピアノは弾きません。ロックピアノは少し弾きます。ロックピアノを弾くのは楽しく、フレーズはかっこよくて、とても好きです。ジャズピアノもロックピアノと同じくらい好きなのです。

ゆうべ聴いたジャズピアニストをお教えしましょう。Gerals Clayton, Bill Charlap, Futami Yuki, Yuka Yanagihara。
これらのピアニストの演奏はとても素晴らしかったです。

本当はジャズについてもっと書きたいのですけれど、もう時間がありませんので、きょうはここまでにしておきます。

Today I’ll be talking about John Lennon again. Sorry if you aren’t interested. However, this is what I’m most passionate about right now, so please bear with me.

I bought a CD called Rock and Roll by John Lennon. Recorded by John in 1975.

John’s singing is very good. John sings rock’n’roll from the mid-1950s to early ’60s. John sings about 14 songs. The performance of every song is wonderful.

I would like to explain what’s great about each song, but unfortunately I don’t have time since I’m about to have breakfast.

When I listen to this CD, I feel much closer to John’s life than ever before. I feel relieved of the frustration I had been feeling.

I have to prepare breakfast soon. That’s all for today.

きょうもジョン・レノンのお話をします。もし関心がなかったらごめんなさい。でも、わたしがいま一番熱中していることですので、どうか我慢してください。

ジョン・レノンのロックンロールというCDを買いました。ジョンが1975年に録音したものです。

ジョンの歌がとてもいいのです。ジョンは1950年代半ばから60年代初めにかけて作られたロックンロールを歌っています。ジョンは14曲くらい歌っています。どの曲の演奏もとても素晴らしいです。

一曲づつ、どこが素晴らしいか解説していきたいのですが、これから朝ごはんですので、残念ながらその時間はありません。

わたしはこのＣＤを聞いいると、ジョンの人生にこれまでより何倍も近づけた気持ちになります。これまで感じていたもどかしい思いが晴れた心持ちです。

そろそろ朝食の支度をしないといけません。きょうはここまでで終わりにします。

Thursday in September

I’m currently writing this letter while listening to a Beatles song. I like the Beatles. But to be honest, I only recently realized this.

The Beatles have three songwriters. All three of them are excellent songwriters. If a band had at least one talented songwriter, they would be happy, but the Beatles had three. It’s no surprise that they reigned at the top of the pop music world for eight years.

Out of the three, I like John Lennon the most. His songs seem much more appealing than Paul’s or George’s songs.

It’s almost time for lunch, so I’ll stop here for today.

Rain is coming and going due to the influence of the typhoon. The typhoon is moving slowly eastward. The Japan Weather Association has announced that people in the Tokai region should be on the lookout for heavy rain.

I’m at home listening to George Harrison songs, George Harrismo playing a Moog synthesizer.

今度の日曜日にバンドのリハーサルをやる。
スタジオは北千住にある。

俺たちはブルースロックを演奏している。
オリジナル曲を作っている。

俺は作曲をする。
ギタリストやドラマーが詞を書く。

曲を作った自分が言うのもおこがましいが、われわれのバンドはなかなかいい曲を演奏している。

前回のリハーサルで、今から7、8年前に作ったオリジナル曲を演奏した。
戦いの歌だ。

久しぶりに演奏したが、曲のキーが少し変に感じた。
キーを1音半下げて調整しようと思う。

俺はボーカリストにキーを調整しようと相談した。
ボーカリストもキーを調整して試してみようと言った。

新しい曲を演奏するのは楽しい。
昔の曲を仕上げていくのも楽しい。

I’ll have a band rehearsal next Sunday.
The studio is located in Kitasenju.

Our band play blues rock.
We are making original songs.

I compose music.
The guitarist and drummer write the lyrics.

I’m not trying to breg, but our band plays some pretty good songs.

At the last rehearsal, we played an original song that we made seven or eight years ago.
It’s a song about battle.

It’s been a long time since we last played, I thougt the key of the song was a little strange.
I’m thinking of adjusting the key by lowering one and a half note.

I talked to the vocalist about adjusting the key.
The vocalist said let’s try adjusting the key.

It’s fun to play new songs
It’s fun to turn out old songs too.

I installed a music app on my smartphone.
Take a photo of the sheet music and the app will play it.
I can’t read sheet music, so this is very convenient.
I randomly take photos of sheet music and have the app play them.
There are old classical sheet music that I have at home.
I was surprised at how beautiful all the songs were.
It’s a strange feeling that a black circle printed on paper records such beautiful music.

俺はスマホに音楽アプリをインストールした。
楽譜を写真に撮ると、アプリが演奏する。
俺は楽譜が読めないので、大変に便利だ。
手当たり次第に楽譜を写真に撮って、アプリに演奏させている。
家にある古いクラシック音楽の楽譜だ。
どの曲も美しいのには驚いた。
紙に印刷された黒い丸印が、こんな美しい音楽を記録しているのは不思議な気持ちだ。

我的高中時代是 20 世紀 70 年代末。
與當時相比，2024年是充滿可能性的一年。
YouTube 就是一個例子。

我喜歡音樂。
我特別喜歡搖滾和布魯斯。
我喜歡的藝術家有很多，包括披頭四、齊柏林飛艇、艾瑞克·克萊普頓和林納德·史金納德。

我喜歡聽，但我更喜歡演奏。
當我在高中時，為了演奏我喜歡的藝術家的歌曲，我必須聽唱片並逐一拾取每個音符。

這對我來說很難。
最後我連一首曲子都無法正確演奏。

不過，表演的解說影片現已上傳至 YouTube。
如果我有意願的話，我就能演奏。
這太棒了。

わたしの高校時代は1970年代の後半だった。
そのころに比べると、2024年のいまは可能性に満ちた時代だ。
そのひとつの例は、youtubeである。

わたしは音楽が好きだ。
特にロックやブルースがお気に入りである。
ビートルズ、レッドツェッペリン、エリック・クラプトン、レイナードスキナードなど、好きなアーティストはたくさんいる。

聞くのも好きだが、演奏するのはもっと好きである。
高校時代、好きなアーティストの曲を演奏するためには、レコードを聴きながら、ひとつひとつ音を拾っていかなければならなかった。

それはわたしにとっては大変であった。
結局、1曲さえもまともに演奏できなかった。

ところが、いまはyoutubeに演奏の解説動画がアップされている。
わたしにやる意思さえあれば、演奏することができるのだ。
これは素晴らしいことである。

My high school days were in the late 1970s.
Compared to then, 2024 is a time full of possibilities.
One example is youtube.

I like music.
I especially like rock and blues.
There are many artists I like, including the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I like listening to it, but I like playing it even more.
When I was in high school, in order to play the songs of my favorite artists, I had to listen to records and pick up each note one by one.

That was difficult for me.
In the end, I couldn’t even play one song properly.

However, an explanation video of the performance has now been uploaded to YouTube.
If I have the will to do it, I can play it.
This is wonderful.

ロック第一世代のスーパーギタリスト。

俺はいまでも二人のギタープレイに憧れている。

永遠のスーパーギタリストでありギターアイドルである。

ふたりはロンドンでジミ・ヘンドリックスのライブを見た。

見終わったとき、きっとこう感じただろう。

俺たち、もうギターはやめよう。

ふたりともギタープレイの革新者だった。

当時のブルースロック界の先頭集団だった。

これからも新しいことにチャレンジしていくつもりだった。

それが、ジミはふたりがやるべきことをすべてやっていた。しかも桁違いのレベルで。

もうふたりにはやることがなかった。

ギターは廃業しよう。

そう思ったのは正解だった。

ふたりにとっての苦しみが始まった。

1970年、ジミがなくなった。

重しが取れたような気持ちになった。

同時に、追いかけていくものもいなくなった。

ふたりはそれぞれ、独自の道を進むことに迷いがなくなった。

令和五年は、残りわずかの時間となった。

夜10時ごろ、紅白歌合戦でクイーン＆アダム・ランバートの演奏を見た。

ドント・ストップ・ミー・ナウを演奏した。

アメリカのどこかの都市からの中継だった。

ステージのセットは、舞台のようなデザインだった。

アダム・ランバートは熱唱していた。

アダムランバートは同性愛者だと思う。

ブラアン・メイが映った。

レッドスペシャルを弾いていた。

ブライアンメイ の弾き姿、立ち姿は様になっていた。
